As we have embraced the beauty of spring here in Orlando, it’s the perfect time to focus on the health and vitality of your trees going into the dry, hot summer of May! In this month’s news we’re excited to share essential tips and updates to keep your landscape thriving.
1. Soil Amendments: Consider invigorating your trees’ root systems with our newer products that focus on the root system. This treatment helps enhance nutrient and WATER uptake and supports healthy growth from the ground up. These treatments are on the rise and its for a good reason. We are staying ahead of the curve and implementing them with our Spring Deep Root Feedings and clients currently on a regular tree/palm program. Ask more about this product and how we can treat your trees to support them through our hot months.
2. Palm Pruning: May or early Summer is a good time for pruning palm trees. Removing newly developed seed pods or dead leaves or cold-damaged leaves from tropical palms not only improves aesthetics and controls disease but also promotes tree health and additional growth.
*Note: For tropical palms, only prune the cold damaged brown leaves when the palm shows a new flush of green growth. In general, do NOT prune palms in the middle of summer as it can attract more insects. (Pruning palms should consist only of dead fronds, with/without seed pods, and one row of lower green fronds). Hurricane pruning or over pruning palms puts them under more stress and should not be done at any time.
3. Palm Care: Don’t forget about your palms! Our tri-annual Palm Program treatments can help protect against pests and diseases, keeping them lush and vibrant. Because the cold has stressed palm trees more this year, we will be alert and proactive regarding the products we use for palm weevil and ambrosia beetle prevention with clients in our palm care programs.
4. Lawn Care: Say what? We are now offering only in-house lawn treatments for our current customers. We are seeing excessive herbicide use or weed control near your trees, resulting in incorrect applications and damaged trees. Therefore, we are now offering a free quote to our customers for additional landscape support. Let us know how we can help and have our operations manager and lawn expert, Coner, come out and evaluate your lawn in conjunction with your tree services. We make an awesome team. Trees vs lawns? Why not both? If you need reviews for our lawn care, we can ask our current clients on a lawn program to provide one. It all started with helping a client with greening up their lawn and using lower herbicide/chemical needs for her daughter’s upcoming summer wedding!
5. Watering: If you haven’t already changed your irrigation schedule, please adjust your timer from once a week (winter/cooler months) to twice a week (warm months) with a greater quantity of water. Also, noticing a lot of clients on a 20 minute 3 x or more watering schedule. To promote more deeper roots, water longer periods of time like 45-60 minutes to have water reach deeper areas of your soil for roots to follow. Helps develop a better root system long-term and can support the plant during drought conditions, including lawns. There is nothing that can replace a great rainfall. Hand water a third time in a week as needed for those plants and trees that require additional support. Newly planted material is the exception and may need daily watering, especially as we go into May/June until we receive our afternoon rainfalls of summer in June or July.
