Common Tree Root Problems
Improper Tree Planting
Many times trees are not taking advantage of correcting roots at time of planting. When a root ball is exposed we recommend root pruning and correcting circling or girdling roots at the surface. Best way to fix roots is when they are out of the ground. And remove excess soil found in most B&B or containerized tree.
Limited Root Spaces
Often in our urban landscapes trees are confined to a small space and expected to grow and thrive when they can’t. Treatments with a Tree Growth Regulator (TGR) are great option to reduce up to 70% of the growth each year to stay close to the size when the treatment is performed while also saving you on pruning your trees often.
Buried Roots or Volcano Mulching
No one likes to see a large mature live oak with dieback or decline. For many years tree roots can be buried and be unnoticed for any decline to show up in the canopy. Some trees can be corrected, earlier the better, and some cannot. Keeping a tree for a long time in an urban space is all about the roots and how to manage a large tree with other landscape plants in a less than ideal urban space.
